A NOTAM (Notice to Airmen) is a coded message about runway closures, navaid outages, airspace restrictions, military exercises, or hazards. A typical long-haul flight generates 200–400 NOTAMs across departure, enroute, destination and alternates — written in 1950s teletype shorthand like 'RWY 14L/32R CLSD 2024-NOV-12 0200/0600 DLY EXC SAT SUN'.
